July 29 – August 1, 2003

Conference Activities:  The starred (*) items are provided for your enjoyment by the conference organizing committee.

July 29.  *Café Zydeco  Relax and enjoy the intimate courtyard setting with an informal gathering at the Café Zydeco.  A Cajun buffet including gumbo, jambalaya, etouffee, and fried catfish promises to spice up the evening.  We will have an excellent dinner with excellent company.  Take your time and enjoy the summer evening.

July 30.  Bite of Bozeman  Friends, family, and visitors mingle in a casual atmosphere while enjoying a wonderful variety of cuisine from the area's finest restaurants and vendors served along the entire length of downtown Main Street.  Then you can stroll and see the jugglers, live bands, singers, etc.  The company (half the City of Bozeman) is superb.

July 31.  An Evening in the Gallatin Valley  Visit the Museum of the Rockies and see extensive dinosaur exhibits from the world renowned paleontologist Jack Horner ( of Jurassic Park fame) or take a picnic lunch up Hyalite Canyon where a short hike leads you to Palisade Falls.  Excellent dinners for all tastes can be had at several restaurants nestled in the surrounding mountains.  Try Chico in Pray and soak in the hot springs or Lone Mountain Ranch at Big Sky and ride the gondola to the top of Lone Mountain.  Eat a western steak at the Land of Magic in Logan.  Dine at the Gallatin Gateway Inn at the head of the Gallatin Canyon and then go see the Virginia City Players on stage in historic Virginia City.  If you have been here before and enjoyed the earthy western ambiance of the Cannery Lounge, go try a laid back meal at Burger Bob’s.

Aug. 1.  *Closing Conference Dinner  This event has, in the past, been the culmination of an enjoyable and productive week.  It will be hosted by the Oasis Restaurant in Manhattan (Montana, that is).  Locals will tell you this is the best steak in the west, so don't miss it.  It's impossible to leave hungry.

Aug. 1-3.  Sweet Pea Festival  The festival includes music, art, and theater (Shakespeare in the Parks) for all tastes.  You can purchase an inexpensive Sweet Pea button, which provides admission to all activities on the grounds of the festival.  The Sweet Pea Run (both 5K and 10K) is early Saturday morning for joggers of all levels.  There is no race day registration, so register early.  That leaves time to enjoy the festival, travel through Yellowstone or Glacier National Parks, visit Lewis and Clack Caverns, float the Yellowstone or Gallatin Rivers, go mountain biking, or hike to Sacajewea Peak to get a beautiful view of the valley.
