Talk by Graduate Student, Allison Theobold (Dept. of Mathematical Sciences, MSU)

11/6/2019  Wilson Hall 1-144  12:00-1:00pm

Abstract:

Allison Theobold will describe her research on the importance of statistical computing in the environmental sciences. She will share her findings to date regarding the computational experiences of environmental science graduate students, the expectations of environmental science faculty, and the impact of data science workshops. Allison will share her plans for continued research, outlining the key computational skills environmental science graduate students use in their independent research. Finally, she will discuss future research goals, outlining a learning trajectory for how students build computational understandings when reasoning with data.
