ITEM 100-2002-R0798 RETIREMENT of Norman Eggert, Department of Mathematical Sciences; Montana State University-Bozeman

Approved unanimously by the Board of Regents at its July 9-10, 1998 meeting in Helena.

THAT: Upon the occasion of the retirement of Norman H. Eggert from the faculty of Montana State University, the Board of Regents wishes to express its appreciation for his service to the University, the Montana University System, and the people of the State of Montana.

EXPLANATION: Norman H. Eggert received his Ph.D. from the University of Colorado and in 1967 joined the Montana State University faculty in the Department of Mathematical Sciences. Since then he has dedicated 31 years contributing to the enhancement of Montana State University. In addition to publishing research articles in mathematical journals and reviewing research for the AMS and NSF, he has taught a wide spectrum of courses in the undergraduate and graduate curriculum and has been instrumental in building and making changes in those curriculums. Aside from Norman's activities in mathematics, he has held offices in Sigma Xi, AAUP, chaired the Faculty Council, served on and chaired many other University and state task forces and educational groups.

For these and other contributions, the Board of Regents of Higher Education is pleased to confer upon Norman H. Eggert the rank of Professor Emeritus of Mathematical Sciences at Montana State University and wishes him well for many pleasant years in the future.
