uuencoded TI Graphing Calculator Files
Frequently people have difficulty downloading files for the TI graphing
calculators using the first method we give. If you are among those having
difficulty, then ideally you can track down the problem and fix it. As a
stopgap method, however, most files are available in uuencoded form. This
is a less user-friendly but more reliable way to download these files.
Uuencoded files are text files that are easy to download. However, they
must be saved as text files and then uudecoded.
- First download the uuencoded file by clicking on the appropriate
link. The file will appear as a text file but look like garbage.
- Save this file by choosing Save as from the File menu.
Note carefully the name and location of the saved file.
- Next you must uudecode this file. There are several possible ways
to do this but note that some of them don't seem to work.
- Using any one of several utilities that are able to uuencode and uudecode
files -- for example, on the Macintosh I use a utility called tickle.
- Using TI-Graph Link 92, TI-Graph Link 83, or TI-Graph Link 86
choose uudecode from the Tools menu. Note that the
location of the uudecode utility may change with different versions of the
TI-Graph Link programs. As this is being written, I cannot find a uudecode
utility on the Macintosh version of the TI-Graph Link 86 program. The IBM
versions of these programs do not seem to recognize these files as
uuencoded files. You may have to try one of the other utilities or
TI-Graph Link programs to uudecode these files.
- Using TI-Graph Link 85 or TI-Graph Link 82,
choose uudecode from the Utilities
submenu under the File menu.
Note that the
location of the uudecode utility may change with different versions of the
TI-Graph Link programs.
- Now execute (launch) the appropriate TI-Graph Link program.
- Open the decoded file from your TI-Graph Link program.
