The TI-CBL can record sound by making up to 512 air pressure readings at intervals ranging from 0.0001 to 0.2000 seconds. The TI-92 program sound below will set-up the TI-CBL for recording sound and then display 239 of the readings. As usual you can download this program using the TI-Graph Link program and cable, or from another TI-92 calculator, or as a last resort you can type it in.

Enter a number between 0.0001 and 0.2. Usually 0.0001 works best unless you want to record a very low-pitched tone. If you enter a number below this range the TI-92 will use 0.0001 and if you enter a number above this range the TI-92 will use 0.2. The TI-92 should respond with the following screen telling you the number you have chosen.

The TI-92 and the TI-CBL are now ready to begin recording sound. Start the sound -- humming, playing a note on a musical instrument -- whatever sound you want to record. While the sound is playing press ENTER on the TI-92. You should see the screen below. This screen tells you the total sampling time and the sampling time for the portion of the recording that will be displayed on the TI-92 screen. You can recover the total sample from the list L1 for further analysis if desired.

Almost immediately the word DONE should appear on the TI-CBL. Press ENTER on the TI-92 again. After a short pause the TI-92 will draw a graph like the one below showing the first 239 readings.
