Master of Science in Mathematics -
Mathematics Education Option
Highlights
The MSMME Program is
designed to serve teachers-in-service where they live and work.
Most of the program can be completed off campus. At least two
online courses are offered each semester, both academic year and summer.
The program was identified as unique and of high quality by
the Western Regional Graduate Program
(WRGP). It was added to the WRPG in 2000. This allows students
from 14 Western states to complete the program at very affordable
residential rates.
Up to nine semester hours of graduate credit earned at
another institution, if approved, can be transferred into the
program.
All of the on-campus summer courses are offered in an intensive three-week institution format.
The staff at the Burns Telecommunication Center are
regularly available to provide expert advice and assistance to students
enrolled in distance learning courses. The assistance ranges from
helping teachers get "on-line," and troubleshooting any problems with
the distance delivery software, to providing information on distance
learning opportunities.
When registered for MSU courses, students have access to a
growing collection of on-line journals and other on-line library
resources through the MSU Renne Library.
Class size is kept to a maximum of 20 students. Numbers
are usually in the 10-15 range making student-professor interactions
friendly and productive.
Students who wish to include coursework in science education
as a "supporting area" can apply 9 credit hours of science education
coursework toward the MSMME degree. Currently a wide
variety of graduate level science education courses are offered in the
distance learning format. See the Master
of Science in Science Education for more
information.
MSU's mathematics education group is one of the largest
mathematics education faculties in the Northwest. They are active at
national and state levels and have a proven track record in providing
state-of-the-art professional development opportunities for
mathematics teachers.
