4) Program of Study:  Coursework and Committees

  1. Upper division class schedules are in your orientation packet
  1. Individual Advising meetings (20min) this afternoon (Aug 24). Your advising time and location are in your orientation packet.
  1. In Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 your "advisor committee" (M.S, Ph.D.) will be comprised of the faculty in the Graduate Program Committee (GPC). In Spring 2010 you will need to fill out a "Program of Study Form" for your intended program of study and new "advisory committee".

  2. Some course sequences are offered alternate years. Factor this into your decisions considering courses you want to take.

  3. How many courses can you take the first year?
    1. Montana Residents: (GTA) 6-9 waiver credits per semester
    2. Nonresidents: (GTA) 6 credits per semester first year

    3. Balancing coursework with GTA duties your first year requires acquiring good time management skills. For this reason you should take 6 credits per semester your first year whether you are a resident or not. In subsequent years  we will waive more if you have obtained residency.

  4. Nonresidents students must obtain Montana Residency by the end of their first year so that in subsequent years they are eligible for 9 waiver credits per semester. There will be an informational meeting on how to obtain residency with Bonnie Ashley on Wednesday September 2, 3:10-4pm in Wil 2-244. For residency rules see here.
