"But Ms. Bryson, this isn't English class!  Why do I have to write in here?"  My students have been making this lament long before "writing across the curriculum" came into vogue, long before NCTM emphasized verbal representation to complement graphical, numerical and algebraic representations, in fact, ever since I student taught as a double major in  Mathematics and Literature.  I have always believed that writing is a powerful tool to process and take ownership of information as well as a necessary skill to communicate one's thoughts and ideas.

I have been blessed with awesome educational experiences.  I graduated from Wheaton College where I was challenged and inspired to make learning powerful and enjoyable.  The  M.S., Mathematics, Math Education Option, at Montana State University, Bozeman, has been equally challenging and inspiring.  The passion for mathematics and for teaching modeled by the professors permeates the whole program.  I highly recommend it!

Throughout the years, I've taught at public high schools in Temple City and Whittier, California, most recently at La Serna HS, a third time Distinguished High School and home the California's Principal of the Year, Mr. Leo Camalich.  (We're a little proud!) It has been my great privilege to work with incredible professionals that strive every day to empower students to be successful in their learning.  Teaching Math in Mali, West Africa through the Peace Corps and being a visiting HS lecturer at UCLA were life-changing opportunities for me that also shaped my philosophy of teaching.

I am currently a Math Coach with  Orange HS, Portola MS and Yorba MS through an NSF research grant given to the Orange County Dept. of Education and California State University, Fullerton.  We have been given the exciting opportunity to focus on improving the student success in mathematics for all students.
