The purpose of this website is to provide a glimpse into an 11-month project in a small, rural district that revolved around mathematics professional development and student-centered number sense activities.  If you are a teacher of mathematics looking for ideas for your classroom, be sure to check out the “Designing and Trying Number Sense Activities” link below.  If you are contemplating pursuing a Masters of Mathematics, Mathematics Education Option at Montana State University—Bozeman, don’t leave before you look at the “MSMME at MSU?” link found on the table of contents.  Happy browsing!

Setting:          This project took place in a small, public, K-12 district (150 students) located in the rural Midwest.  The school currently has bi-level elementary classes (one teacher for each of the combined grades 1-2, 3-4, and 5-6) and one math teacher for grades 7-12.  The district is experiencing some growth as people from a nearby metropolitan area seek to move their families to a smaller community.
