Montana Chapter of the American Statistical Association
1993 Annual Meeting Minutes
Friday, October 22, 1993
The meeting was called to order by President, Bill Quimby.
Prior to the election of Chapter Officers, a brief discussion was held regarding Kris Ghosh's withdrawal as the Chapter Vice President and the selection of new officers. It was reaffirmed that the Executive Committee is the Nominating Committee. This Committee presented the nominations. Election for the Chapter Officers and Chapter Representative was held. The results were, by unanimous vote:
| President: | Don Loftsgaarden, University of Montana, Missoula |
| Vice-President: | Pat Munholland, Montana State University, Bozeman |
| Secretary/Treasurer: | Carol Bittinger, Montana State University, Bozeman |
Pat Munholland, the outgoing Secretary/Treasurer, presented the 1992-1993 treasurer's report. The balance as of October 20, 1993 was $1261.86.
John Borkowski, the continuing Chapter Representative presented his report concerning the ASA Chapter Representatives Meeting in August 1993. Discussion was held on the renewal of the Chapter constitution. The Chapter thought it appropriate that the Executive Committee review the constitution, make appropriate changes and submit the finished document for renewal.
Discussion was held on continuing the student book awards and/or student memberships to the ASA. The Chapter thought it was appropriate that each of the 3 general groups, MSU/UM/Helena receive $100.00 for such awards and that the group of possible recipients be extended to include junior statistics faculty or staff. Further, the Executive Committee is to pre-approve each of the awards. A motion, relative to the above, was passed.
Discussion was held regarding MSUnet. In particular Carol Bittenger solicied input as to additional software requests and current software use. Chapter members may submit requests and/or comments via an upcoming issue of the Chapter newletter.
Discussion was held on ways to enhance membership, particularly among government workers in Helena.
Regarding next year's program, Susan Hinkins suggested that non-university members should be included as speakers and that issues of major interest to these members be addressed throughout future Chapter meetings. She also noted that communication among university and non-university members is poor. She suggested that non-university groups should be informed of Seminars or Guest Lectures series at the universities.
The meeting was adjourned.
