1995 Annual Meeting Minutes

Friday, October 26, 1995


The meeting was called to order by President, Pat Munholland.

Election for the Chapter Officers was held. The results were, by unanimous vote:
President: Rick Rossi, Montana Tech, Butte
Vice-President: Jon Graham, University of Montana, Missoula
Secretary/Treasurer: Carol Bittinger, Montana State University, Bozeman

Carol Bittinger gave the treasurer's report. The balance as of September 26, 1995 was $1466.31.

There was a discussion as to how to spend the money. One suggestion was sending teams to an undergraduate competition (3/team) in data analysis to SLC. There was a move to put a proposal to the Executive Committee. It was seconded. Awards for Masters/PhD students were also discussed. An announcement/reminder is to be sent in the spring.

John Borkowski, the Chapter Representative gave his report. The ASA meetings in 1996 will be in Chicago. Continuing Ed classes will be taught during the week. Each chapter can have a home page on the internet. AP stat classes in high school will begin May 1997. ASA is not responsible to non-PhD statisticians. Proposed video games in statistics to attract high school students will probably be dropped. Short courses in remote areas would still cost approx. $50/person. Topics of interest 1) Adopt-a-school, 2) Why aren't ASA members Chpater members? We are in District 6.

Other new business included discussion on developing our own web page, and creating a list server for the purpose of discussions. Carol Bittinger will organize the list server.

The new logo was shown.
