Minutes of the 2000 Annual Meeting

October 5, 2000

Montana Tech., Butte


The meeting was called to order by Vice-President Brian Steele

President Rick Rossi was unavailable (teaching).


I. REPORTS

  1. Susan Hinkins gave the Treasurer's Report
    The report was accepted.

  2. Susan Hinkins gave the Chapter Representative's Report.

    • Questioned current status of our chapter archive history. Lynda Steele is believed to be working on this project.

    • Funds are available to have ASA officers and/or other speakers visit. However, it is not clear from the form how to request a specific speaker.

    • There is a push to propose courses for continuing education.

    • All chapter donations from corporate sponsors over $1000 must be coordinated through the ASA Development Office.

    • Montana Chapter ASA web page is no longer functioning. Jim Robison-Cox will check on this.

    • There is a manual available for K-12 outreach programs.

  3. Susan Hinkins passed around the minutes of last year's meeting.
    The minutes were accepted.


II. NEW TOPICS

  1. Jim Robison-Cox moved that the chapter support nominating Marty Hamilton as an ASA fellow. The motion was seconded and carried. The MSU stat group will research the procedure and divide duties to follow through.


III. OLD TOPICS

  1. The audit discussed last year did not occur. Steve Cherry (past-President), Jim Robison-Cox (past-past-President), Susan Hinkins (Treasurer), and Sherry Heis (Secretary) agreed to meet at the beginning of Spring Semester to get this done.

  2. There was a discussion regarding the listserv. Members must register themselves to receive chapter notices and announcements. One way to do this is visit the MSU math department stat page and link to the Montana Chapter of ASA: stat/MT_ASA.html
    Follow the directions stated. As a side note, Carol Bittenger will purge out old unused addresses.

IV. ELECTIONS

  1. The current Vice-President (Brian Steele) becomes President for 2001.

  2. Chip Todd was nominated and unanimously approved for Vice-President.

  3. Susan Hinkins finishes her term as Treasurer this December. Keeping with tradition, members looked around the room to see who was not present at the meeting this year. Jon Graham was nominated for Treasurer. He was approved by unanimous decision.

  4. The only person known to be going to the ASA meeting in Atlanta was Jon Graham. He was nominated and unanimously approved as Chapter Representative.
