KENNETH J. TIAHRT RECEIVES SERVICE AWARD
Montana Chapter of the American Statistical Association
Kenneth J. Tiahrt, retired Professor of Statistics, Montana State University - Bozeman, received the Chapter Service Award from the Montana Chapter of the American Statistical Association on September 23, 2003, during the annual chapter meeting in Butte. The official citation states,
To Kenneth J. Tiahrt in recognition of his success in founding the Montana Chapter of the American Statistical Association and for outstanding and dedicated service, including many years as the Council of Chapters Representative.The Service Award is a newly instituted program of the ASA and Ken Tiahrt was the first person to receive this recognition from the MT Chapter, which was founded in 1976. For the 16 years prior to his retirement, Ken Tiahrt was the Head of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, MSU - Bozeman. He and his wife Nancy reside in Bozeman, where they are active in community service, including volunteer work for the Senior Center and Meals on Wheels.
The American Statistical Association is a scientific and educational society founded in 1839, making it one of the oldest professional societies in the United States. The ASA is a nonprofit organization and achieves its objectives by conducting meetings, producing publications devoted to statistical methodology and its applications, and making available information concerning the science of statistics and its contributions. It also cooperates with other organizations in the advancement of statistics, stimulates research, promotes high professional standards and integrity in the application of statistics, fosters education in statistics, and, in general, makes statistics of service to society.
