Statistical Consulting at Montana State University
Phone: (406) 994-3601
Statistical Consulting Services provides, on a limited basis,
statistical consulting to MSU researchers, state agencies and businesses.
These services are offered primarily to provide statistics
graduate students with consulting experience through exposure to
research projects.
SERVICES AVAILABLE
-
Consultation Statistical assistance includes
- planning studies or designing experiments,
- writing the methods section of a proposal,
- non-routine statistical computing or data analyses,
- and interpreting published statistical presentations.
- Collaboration. If the project requires extensive or
innovative statistical work, it may be appropriate to include a
statistician as a research collaborator. Collaboration is normally
established at the proposal writing stage.
- Analysis. Statistics majors may be available
to assist in data analysis at a standard hourly charge rate. In
general, the researcher should NOT expect the consultants to do data
analysis. The statistical consulting will primarily
be performed by statistics graduate students in the Department of
Mathematical Sciences under the supervision of statistics faculty.
TO APPLY FOR CONSULTING SERVICES
To apply for consulting services, an Application for
Statistical Consulting Services form must be completed. This
application may be picked up at the Department of Mathematical
Sciences office in 2-214 Wilson Hall or fill out this
form for e-mailing the application.
Your application will be forwarded to the Director of Statistical
Consulting Services who will contact you when a decision is made
concerning the availability of consulting services. Due to time and
other constraints, only a limited number of projects can be accepted.
Consulting services will be rendered for the stated project, and hence,
there is no guarantee of services for future research. During the Fall
semester, applications can be submitted at any time. For the Spring
semester, applications must be submitted by March 31.
FEES
Consultation is provided to unsupported MSU projects free of
charge. Supported projects will be billed at an hourly rate.
