Course description

MATH 348 - TECHNIQUES OF APPLIED MATHEMATICS I
Prerequisite: Math 221, Math 225.

Modeling and applications are stressed throughout. Topics covered to solve and analyze these models are ordinary differential equations including series solution techniques and Laplace transform techniques, linear algebra and vector calculus, and complex analysis.

GRADING SYSTEM: The course grade will be based on 2 hourly exams worth 100 points each, one final exam worth 100 points and homework/project/quiz assignments totaling 200 points. Thus the final course grade is determined as below.

Final Exam,      F = 100 points
Homework etc., HPQ = 200 points

SOFTWARE: We will use the software package Maple developed by the Symbolic Computation Group of the University of Waterloo. Student versions can be purchased. To purchase Maple Version 5, Release 4 (no manual) you can call 1-800-354-9706. The bookstore does not yet have Release 4.
