Brief Mathematical Biography:

I am a Ph.D. candidate working under the direction of Professor Jack Dockery.  I am planning on finishing my degree in the spring of 2013.   My Ph.D. work is in the field of mathematical physiology, specifically on models of  pancreatic islets called Islets of Langerhans.  The majority of the cells in these islets are called ß-cells and are responsible for insulin secretion which is the principal hormone regulating the blood glucose level.  In the presence of glucose, these cells exhibit a complex pattern of oscillations called bursting.  This work includes investigating the presence of traveling waves in these islets as well as using Alternate Direction Implicit methods to study mathematical models of these islets in higher dimensions.

While at Oregon State University and Montana State University, I have had the opportunity to teach many different classes ranging from College Algebra to Differential Equations.  I love teaching and I often look for new and innovative techniques to incorportate into the classroom.
