Student will have to look this up in a physics
book, or on the Internet
2. Name nine types of volcanoes.
Volcano Types: Calderas, cinder cones, composite
volcanoes, lava domes, lava plateaus, shield volcanoes, stratovolcanoes,
submarine volcanoes, volcanic domes
3. Explain how a stratovolcano is formed and its prominent features
Some of the Earth's grandest mountains are
composite volcanoes -- sometimes called stratovolcanoes. They are typically
steep-sided, symmetrical cones of large dimension built of alternating
layers of lava flows, volcanic ash, cinders, blocks, and bombs and may
rise as much as 8,000 feet above their bases
4. Explain the difference between a lava plateau, flood basalt, and plateau basalt
See information in: http://vulcan.wr.usgs.gov/Glossary/LavaPlateaus/description_lava_plateaus.html
5. How do submarine volcanoes behave differently from land based volcanoes?
See information in: http://vulcan.wr.usgs.gov/Glossary/SubmarineVolcano/description_submarine_volcano.html
