To those who do not know mathematics it is difficult to get across a real feeling as to the beauty, the deepest beauty of nature. If you want to learn about nature, to appreciate nature, it is necessary to understand the language that she speaks in. -Richard Feynman (1918-1988)
My research interests include iterative sampling from high dimensional densities, modeling of complex biological systems, bifurcation theory with symmetries, annealing and clustering schemes, information theory, optimization, computational neuroscience, and vision science. Some of my work:
When I'm not working, I enjoy tramping, canoeing, and climbing with my fav pooch, the Gauss-man. Gauss-less passions: hunting, biking, and the dojo. When there's lots of snow, I back-country ski and snowboard. When I'm stuck at home, I enjoy reading, homebrewing, chess, and the acoustic guitar. And yeah, I like to lindy.
