Final Instructions and Trail Conditions

As of Jun 21, the trail is almost completely clear of snow. There is a small snow field going down into the first Bostwick which is to your advantage. You can glissade down and easily skirt it on the hike back up. The second Bostwick is very wet and muddy in places and badly eroded. You shouldn't wear your clean white shoes!. Streamcrossings are reasonable. You can get across with dry feet if you take the time to pick your way. The right side is often the best. The Truman Gulch trail and the Sypes trail are fine with flowers still colorful. I have a picture below of the only trail junction on the course. It is 1.3 miles up from the Middle Cottonwood start. You go left the first time to Truman Gulch and right the second time to Sypes Canyon. The road to Truman (for any crew going over there) is graded, watered, and smooth as a baby's bottom.

Hopefully you know there will be no race packets sent out. Please read the Detailed Trail Description page. You will pick up race packets including numbers at the start at Middle Cottonwood Trailhead. Directions are at the Race Info page. Be sure to arrive at the race start by 5:30 AM in order to get your race number and organize drop bags. Parking will be very tight along the road as you approach the trail head. Pull off far enough for people to get by you. There will be only one porta-john – you should be prepared to use the woods if in a hurry.

Post-race party is at 6:30 at Lindley Park off of Main Street on the east side of Bozeman . Watch for the horse and rider statues on the right going east out of town. Turn right just before or after the statues. Free beer, water, pop and pizza (five pizza's will have green peppers and cheese, while 20 will have various meats) and beer.
