Trail Conditions

This will be the final update. As of Jun 24, the trail was as good as it gets before July. No snow going up to the saddle below Saddle Peak (8000 feet). There is still significant snow going into the Bostwicks and on the next two northfacing slopes. There will be some glissades going down and you can get around the snow coming up for the most part by going a little out of your way. Expect a mile or so of muddy trail too at the bottom of the snow fields. The flowers are looking better and better especially below 7000 feet. We have 80 degree weather forcast (for the first time this summer!) through race day so flowers may creep up higher. Creek crossings are all possible with dry feet if you are cautious but expect to get some wet feet here and there.

Repeat remainders:
Hopefully you know there will be no race packets sent out. You will pick up race packets including numbers at the start at Middle Cottonwood Trailhead. Directions are at the Race Info page. Be sure to arrive at the race start by 5:30 AM in order to get your race number and organize drop bags. Parking will be very tight along the road as you approach the trail head. Pull off far enough for people to get by you. There will be only one porta-john – you should be prepared to use the woods if in a hurry.

Post-race party is at 6:30 at Lindly Pavilion. Go east on Main Street towards Billings, up the hill past the first Exxon, turn right on Buttonwood at the park near the top with a horse and rider statue. You can go past the statue and turn right on Cyprus too. Free pizza (five pizza's will have green peppers and cheese, while 20 will have various meats) and excellent beer from Bozeman Brewery plus water and pop.
