The final exam is scheduled for 4:00-5:50 am, Monday, May 6,
2002. Students are strongly encouraged to work together on
homework assignments. Late homework will be accepted only
with the advanced permission of the instructor.
Homework Assignment 1:
Exercises 1.2, 1.3ac, 1.4bd in Chapter 4. Exercise 1.1d is extra
credit. Due Friday, Jan. 25.
Homework Assignment 2:
Exercises 2.1, 2.3, 2.5 Chapter 4. Extra credit: Use the
energy method to show that solutions to the diffusion equation are
stable with respect to perturbations in the initial condition. Due
Monday, Feb. 4. Problem 2.6 is also extra credit.
Homework Assignment 3:
Exercises 3.2, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6 in Chapter 4. Due Friday, Feb. 8.
