Abstract:  Topological quantum field theories (TQFTs) have come to play a distinguished role at the interface of pure mathematics and theoretical physics. Motivated by the latter, Moore and Tachikawa conjectured the existence of certain TQFTs valued in a category of holomorphic symplectic varieties. I will outline a generalization of Moore-Tachikawa conjecture, as well as affirmative evidence in its favor. In the process, I will construct new TQFTs from Lie-theoretic data. This represents joint work with Maxence Mayrand.
